Public Health Intelligence team Public Health Intelligence (PHI) is a multidisciplinary group of epidemiologists, statisticians, geographers, and social scientists in the Ministry of Health. The skills of PHI provide evidence for population health policy and decision-making. More specifically, the mission of PHI is to carry out the Ministry of Health's statutory responsibility to monitor the health of the New Zealand population. PHI achieve their mission by analysing health outcomes, risks and determinants to measure how healthy the New Zealand population is over time and to examine inequalities in health across regional boundaries and between various population groups.
PHI has adopted a methodological structure resulting in four interconnected work streams. This enables PHI to provide an interdisciplinary approach, which includes expertise in the following areas:
Health Surveys
Health GeoInformatics
Modelling and Forecasting
Surveillance and Monitoring
Some of the analytical work of PHI is disseminated through their 'Occasional Bulletin' series, in professional peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at conferences. Whenever possible PHI publications will be available on its website.
