This section provides access to information about New Zealand's population by subject. Each subject page includes more detailed information about related topics.
 
Estimates, counts and projections describes the three main kinds of population information and their differences. It outlines when to use which kind of population information. The page links to statistics and more explanation about estimates, counts and projections.

Population structure explains how New Zealand's population is structured by age, sex and ethnicity. It links to information and statistics about these characteristics and about changes in people's living circumstances that affect population structure (like marriage, divorce, families and households).

Population groups gives information about the groups of people that make up the New Zealand population. Included are links to statistics about the major ethnic groups, children, youth, women and older people.

Migration explains how New Zealand's population changes when people enter or leave it and links to migration statistics. It also describes the difference between international travel, international migration and internal migration.
