Estimates, counts and projections?

What is meant by estimates, counts and projections?

The size and composition of a population is complex and changes over time. People are interested in population as it was in the past, as it is at present and how it will change in the future.

Estimates provide the best available information at any time of the number of people, including their age, sex and location, as well as the number of families and households.

Population counts reflect the number of people actually counted in a survey or census.

Projections provide information on the future size of the population or a sector of the population such as the labour force. They also provide information of the number and size of future households and families.
