Justice and crime

How does population relate to justice and crime?

The structure and distribution of a population affects the incidence of crime. People involved in various criminal activities tend to fall into well-defined age groups. Crime also tends to be more common in some areas than others.

An understanding of the age-sex composition of the population (including age standardisation) is required to analyse patterns of offending within particular sectors of society.
