Women are females living in New Zealand who are aged 15 years and over. Women counted in the 2001 Census outnumbered men by 108 to 100. Females overall outnumbered males by 105 to 100.
What are population statistics about women used for?
Statistics about New Zealand women reflect the changing demographic characteristics of the female population, changes in the patterns of family formation and dissolution, changes in living arrangements and increasing participation in education and paid employment.
They are used to track women's changing social and economic position and allow measurement of women's status in terms of both changes over time and in comparison with their male peers.
