In 2004, Statistics New Zealand published a report of the Review of the Measurement of Ethnicity. This report was the outcome of a four-year review of the concept of ethnicity and how this is reflected in various data collections.
The review was undertaken in response to the evolving nature of the ethnic make up of New Zealand society and of the needs of users of ethnicity statistics. The purpose of the review was to examine the concepts and measurements of ethnicity used in official statistics to ensure the continued relevance of the statistics.
This report includes the following sections:
- background and definition of ethnicity
- review of literature
- ethnic communities' perspectives.
Available as pdf file.
