Consumers Price Index: September 2009 quarter

Highlights

In the September 2009 quarter compared with the June 2009 quarter:

  • The consumers price index (CPI) rose 1.3 percent.
  • Transport prices rose 3.1 percent, with higher prices for international air transport and vehicle relicensing fees.
  • Food prices rose 1.7 percent, with higher prices for vegetables.
  • Housing and household utilities rose 0.7 percent, due mainly to higher prices for local authority rates and payments.

From the September 2008 quarter to the September 2009 quarter:

  • The CPI increased 1.7 percent. This is the smallest annual increase since the March 2004 quarter.
